My interview with Panorama.am on the recently revised Law on Specially Protected Nature Areas

In an interview with Panorama.am, I highlighted that expanding the area of protected territories alone is not sufficient to achieve biodiversity conservation goals. While Armenia aims to increase the coverage of protected and conserved areas from the current 13.1% to 20% by 2030, equal attention must be given to effective management, sustainable financing, stakeholder engagement, and community participation. I have also emphasized the importance of introducing more flexible conservation models, such as IUCN Category V Protected Landscapes and UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, which can better integrate conservation objectives with local development needs and support broader participation of communities, civil society, and the private sector in nature conservation efforts.
