International conventions at the Ministry of Environment

Seminar on international conventions signed by the Republic of Armenia was held at the Ministry of Environment. The most important conventions related to nature conservation were introduced to various departments of the Ministry of Environment.

About 25 participants from departments of international cooperation, CITES, climate change, strategic development, biodiversity policy, forest policy, etc. were present. Biodiversity director of the Finnish Environmental Institute - SYKE, Mr. Petri Ahlroth presented among others the Convention on Biological Diversity and its protocols, and the Bern Convention on Conservation of European Wildlife and Habitats. The Bern Convention has been a model for creating Natura 2000 network in the European Union. Therefore, Armenia's obligations to comply with the Bern Convention will help with implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the European Union.
